NOAA forecasts 'above-normal' 2024 hurricane season

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season has begun, with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicting that tropical activity could be "above normal" due to warmer ocean temperatures and La Niña. CBS News national correspondent Manuel Bojorquez reports from Miami Beach, Florida.

If you are making disaster preparations, be it for hurricane season or other events, I recommend not only water for family members, but also pets. Have food on hand for ALL members of your family, particularly that which can be kept and consumed without a refrigerator or heating device. If you’re sheltering in place, be prepared to fend for yourselves for at least 72 hours. I suggest having at least one of those little solar powered (with hand cranks) flashlights/radio/phone chargers on hand, and a couple of good LED lanterns. Whether you stay or evacuate, have your important documents in a portable firebox, along with flash drives containing family photos, which often are lost in a disaster. Photograph/video your home, with emphasis on your valuable items BEFORE a catastrophe strikes. And please, PLEASE microchip your pets, including the indoor ones. You may become separated during disasters, but microchipping should help expedite reunions. Keep copies of those microchip numbers with your other documents.
