How the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) will affect you and your business | TECH(talk)

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is, in some ways, similar to Europe's GDPR. This rule, which goes into effect in 2020, gives individual users more ownership over their own data. Users can even refuse to allow companies to sell their online data. As the compliance deadline approaches, CSO Online contributor Maria Korolov and senior editor Michael Nadeau discuss with Juliet how CCPA may shift business models, change online behavior and reveal where exactly our data has been. Some tech companies, like Google, are even trying to exempt themselves from regulation. Failure to adhere to the rule could be an "extinction-level" event.

Hey everyone! We're planning to have Maria on TECH(talk) again to discuss CCPA once it goes into effect next month. If you have any questions you'd like us to ask her, reply to this comment. --Juliet

My Credit Union has been sharing my information for years, even when I've told them not to. I'm glad I'm finally gonna be able to sue the hell out of them!

Will this affect adsense revenue if we choose to restrict data processing?

Thanks so much for this great info! I have one big question, though. As far as which businesses will be affected by the law, one of the criteria is: “possesses/receives personal data of at least 50K+ of consumers, households, or devices”. Some resources say the 50K refers to California residents specifically. Other sources seem to interpret the law more broad and say it’s 50K consumers in general. Do you know which it is? Thanks!

What do you make of companies who do not qualify under the law(to be a business) but have data of California residence, and how is this going to affect the companies who are suppose to comply with the law and those that do not need to ?? will be glad to see your next video on this

It seems like BlockChain technology might fix and help this type of law.
