"The Promise" is the debut single by the British new wave and synth-pop band When in Rome. It was first released in 1987 on 10 Records, as the lead single from their self-titled debut album. It was written by all three band members: Clive Farrington, Andrew Mann and Michael Floreale. The song was released in the U.S. in 1988 and reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It is the band's biggest commercial hit.

You know you really can't beat the 80's I was 19 turning 20 the 5th Month in 1987 That was a fantastic decade to grow up in as a Teen and my early 20's there will never be a 80's like that again even if it was 2087 in which i will never ever see
