“Let the breaking ground of this subway system signal our intention to the world, to pursue even grander dreams and more ambitious endeavors, and to bring comfort and progress to our people all over the country,” said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. when he led the groundbreaking for the Contract Package 104 (CP104) of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) - Ortigas and Shaw Boulevard Stations and Tunnels in a ceremonial program on October 3, 2022.

The CP104 forms part of the first phase of the MMSP — the Philippines’ first subway project — that spans through the business district of Pasig City.

President Marcos Jr. acknowledged the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and other important stakeholders in making the project possible, noting how the CP104 would greatly benefit the commuting public as it is expected to accommodate approximately 150,000 passengers per day once fully operational by 2028.

“With this serving as our guide moving forward, let our shared aspirations for a better, brighter and more prosperous Philippines enkindle in all of us Filipinos a renewed zeal and purpose to work for the advancement of our countrymen,” the Chief Executive ended in his message.
