With this tutorial I was able to convert full elastic waist shorts into a half elastic waist. I first made the back part then measured what I needed for the front it worked out great.

I'm glad I saw this! I am working on doing something similar, but I was only going to sew along the top and bottom edges. This looks like it will work much better with the stitches in the middle as well!
