***pinning this since everyone who comments misses the point*** Like I say in the short, obviously the pitch of your switch will influence the sound. but it's on such a micro level in comparison to everything else in a keyboard. The case, keycap profile/material, plate, mods, acoustics all have a significantly bigger influence on sound, as shown in the video. I could put the thockiest switch i own into that bakeneko, and my kbd67lite with the clackiest switch i own would still sound thockier. Personally, I would look for a switch that has the best specs and reviews (smoothness, stem wobble, quality of spring, build quality) instead of searching for the "thocciest switch". lets be real, the thockiest switch is probably Topre. If all you care about is pitch, then buy a fully plastic topre board and call it a day.

Lets say the internet told you that gateron Black Inks are the deepest thocciest switch. Well, you buy them, put them in your board, but... they're too heavy of a spring for you and you hate typing on your board, oh and they're also scratchy asf. Does sound really matter if the keyboard doesnt feel good to type on? You're better off searching for a switch you'lll actually like in terms of the feel over the sound.

Hope that helps everyone looking for a switch. stem wobble, spring quality (lack of crunch), leaf ping/spring ping, smoothness are all things you should worry about more, in my opinion.

“What’s the thocciest switch?” *laughs in membrane*

So maybe a better question would be, "What switch will CONTRIBUTE to making the thocciest keyboard?"

Glad to see you like them! Much love from Elboard ^_^

I feel like they'd probably know that if they're asking, it's still helpful to know which switch produces a deep sound though.

What is the deepest switch if you put them all in the same keyboard with the same mods?

I get that, but as a component, there has to be switches that add a deep thock at the level of switches in the chain.

Good job, explaining this. Now not everyone will ask you that!

That is a really good point!

The KB case profile/size & material. (And whether you mod it: forcebreak, killmat, tape mod, wtvr)
The material of the switch plate.
Even the keycap profile and material.

All those things will have an impact on how the switch sounds, but in different ways.

The case act as the resonance box on a guitar.

Then the switch plate depending on the material used, will accentuate certain sounds of the switch. Aluminum will tend to be good if you like higher frequency sounds. Whereas something like PC will tend to resonate lower frequency sounds.

Keycaps seems to have to do with their size. So Cherry vs SA. This is getting into subjective territory. But I found that the taller the keycap the deeper the sound, it also tends to emphasize popping.

One thing is for sure. Unless you are listening to as ound test where the person lists all the materials (or at least a keyboard name you can look up to confirm the parts) it's not necesiarlly going to sound the same on your keyboard.

Also whether or not you lube the switch yourself. Depending on the quality of the factory lube. It can also change the sound profile rather significantly in cases where there is on, or bad factory lube. Make sure you check whether you are listening to stock or hand lubed switches.

Yes you can modify any keycap switch and board to sound amazing and I’m going to be doing a crazy mod that’s never been done before when I build my box jade keyboard.

I was super surprised by the very distinct difference in sound, most of the time it’s slightly but you can definitely tell in this video

plastic case = thocky. i think enthusiasts that really want to chase that sound are in luck because the thockiest cases i’ve seen & heard are ALL in the budget range. higher priced keebs w/ all aluminum casing will sound higher pitch no matter what you do

case material, plate material, dampening, hollowness, keycap thickness, keycap material and pcb all make a difference in sound

This needs to be addressed more lol People don’t understand that there’s so much more that goes into the sound of a keyboard

That switch storage solution is awesome, may I ask where you got it?
