DeAgostini 1:8 scale Ford GT40 - Amazing model of an amazing automobile

The first editions of our 1:8 scale DeAgostini Ford GT40 have arrived! The Ford GT40 was an AMAZING super performance race car from the late sixties and early seventies.

For more information on the Ford GT40 and to see a special promo from DeAgostini DO CHECK OUT their website:

This is our third DeAgostini 1:8 scale diecast automobile. DeAgostini makes models and diecasts in many scales and of many subjects. Our friend Don has built two of their wooden ship models. The quality shows in all of their offerings!

A unique aspect of DeAgostini is its subscription system. As the larger and more complicated kits are expensive and take months to build, they are sold as editions, sets of parts that usually assemble quickly. Also, each edition includes with the assembly instructions a written history, a magazine with historical photos, and information about the prototype. While we have found we can often complete the assembly of the edition in a few minutes, we spend an hour going through the magazine.

While a person can sign up to have one edition delivered each week, we have found it better to have ten editions delivered each month or so. As I say, the assembly of each section can be done in a very short time, but it's MUCH more fun to spend an afternoon or evening or two building our model! And then look forward to the next large box from DeAgostini while going through the magazines.

Our other two DeAgostini 1:8 scale automobiles are a GAZ Soviet-era four-door sedan. NOW, while the prototype is of little interest to us, the model is sooo fascinating that we simply could not resist. The other is a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang in Guardsman Blue and Wimbledon White. EXACTLY what we have in the garage. So how could we say no?

And now the Ford GT40. Larry Miller had six of these ten-million-dollar cars! AND our friend at Millers track and garage would let us into the collection to simply be in the same place as the best collection of super Fords on the planet. And so here too, how could we pass this amazing model up?

You have inspired me to find the old school models I built in the 70s. Thank you. Wish me luck finding them .. Have a great week

The 1967 Le Man winning car, the Ford GT40 Mk. IV, driven by Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt is on display in the Ford Museum in Dearborn Michigan. The museum is worth visiting. One more thing, the video is an interesting comparision between Soviet and American cars at that time.

I had that GT40 as a slot car about 1968, we took it to a track in Paramount CA. On Lakewood Blvd. Thank you.

Ok first off that is totally awesome that guy actually drives his collection and drive them like they were intended, which is why I love watching Goodwood and seeing all those vintage race cars getting a good ol' ringing out. Second yes I have seen these " part of the month " model kits on other modeling channels and seems like an interesting way to build a kit.

Good morning folks! Loved your intro! Karyn's reaction to you and the X-acto knife was funny.

I have a weakness for building models, but I've never built a metal kit before. Now thanks to your video I'm looking online at the assortment of models that are available.

A model kit would be a nice winter project...on top of all of my other winter projects that are inundating my hobby table. I need more room.

Thanks for another great video!

Nice!!! My brother built one of these of the Back To The Future Delorean. Apart from having to chase the manufacturer about a few pieces not being quite right or missing, it's a really beautiful impressive model. (I think it took a couple of years of monthly subscription! 😂).

Hey Toy Man. I just ordered the Fast and Furious Dodge Charger from Fan home models. It is 1/8 scale. I plan on getting more of these kinds of models. Thank you so much for showing your collection. Really appreciate that

That's a great looking DeAgostini GT40 kit! I'd LOVE to have a kit like that. But, it's way OUT of my price range. 🙄 I have a large collection of Exoto 1:18 scale diecast models. Ever heard of Exoto? I have a 1:18 scale Ford GT40 from Exoto... it's a beauty. Other 1:18 diecast models I have are some racing Cobra Daytona racecars by Carroll Shelby and a few Chevy Stingrays. Exoto makes really cool 1:18 diecast cars. You should check 'em out if you haven't already done so. I'm gonna check out the 1:8 the kit you are showing us in this video. It's interesting! Thanks for sharing it with us! 🚗

I think that I had the G T 40 as a Slot Car when I was a kid .
It looks really familiar .

Night of Jan 16 we had a Snow plow train come through Silver Springs Nevada .
Sorry but it was too far away and very dark to see and get a picture .
Horn and Lights only .

Did yall even complete this project?! I looked through your videos and may have overlooked the follow up. I’d love to see your complete build and final thoughts. The piece looks magnificent

I seem to remember that there is a "subscription" model(s) for some of the Star Wars space ships, IE The Millennium Falcon. Is this the same company?
When you first showed the Russian model, I was very impressed at the detail and accuracy. I'd say: these models compare to the very high end "wooden" ship models, which my brother-in-law builds, and that is saying quite a lot.
It will be fun to view this project, as it progresses. ;-)

Hey guys Virtual Railfan has a good video of why you should always have your vehicle in good orientation when a car looks like it dies at the worst possible time

I’d love to see someone make a 1/8 scale Foxbody Mustang. Around 40 years ago one of the plastic model kit companies made a 1:12 or 1:16 1979-1982 Mustang hatchback. The kit is extremely hard to find as I’ve been looking for one since the year 2000. I found one listed in a car model magazine for $100 about 15 years ago when I didn’t have the money.
