As a wife and a mother for 15 years whose husband takes care of our family financially, If he wants something frivolous that I find ridiculous then I would be the first person to tell him that he should get it. I've seen that scenario unfold many times. The woman ask the man many things for her. New dress, new shoes, new purse, new jewelry, etc. they have no problem with that. But the moment he spends something on himself: new shoes, new watch, new gaming console, new golf clubs. Then there is a problem. He is irresponsible and she's not submitting.

I don't agree with Andrew. The example of a finantial irresponsable man is very good. I agree that the woman is to the husband like the church is to Christ but Christ gave himself to save mankind out of love, and obvioulsy Jesus is not a tyrant that orders others to submit to his selfish will. That would be equivalent to a irresponsible husband and definetely somebody like him doesnt deserve anybody to submit to him.

Keeko gave a perfectly reasonable answer and example when it does not make sense for a wife to submit to her husband. I don't like the idea that the woman should always fully and unconditionally trust the man in any decision making. There need to be certain limits. I feel like Andrew is sometimes intentionally refusing to find common ground and being a contrarian for the sake of being a contrarian.

I agree on Andrew on a lot of things but this ain't it.. how are you going to forgo logic and submit to a husband that is willingly and selfishly driving the family to bankruptcy? Sounds like he wants absolute submission no matter how illogical, negative or dangerous the husband makes the situation to be. I agree with what Keeko is saying here.

Sorry but Andrew is putting an impossible situation forward and failing and so is falling back on a very orthodox religious stance, and frankly, making himself look like a dick. It seems like he wants to lead the girl on the right down a path with no choices, to ultimate divorce, as he wants to 'prove' that she is not a great partner. Her responses are really good, she's answered the questions, and I wish Brian had moved it on earlier than he did.

As a wife who does NOT submit, I'd like to defend the submissive wives for a moment:

The existence of an EXCEPTION to the rule does not dismiss the EXISTENCE of the rule. If a women believes in submitting yet refuses to submit due to a clear and serious pattern of selfishness on the part of her man, that doesn't make her a hypocrite. The normal rules of engagement don't apply when you're dealing with a toxic person.
