I started out the same way. Used tools, cheap tools, anything I could get my hands on to start working. Then I upgraded as I made more money. The truck is important. Ive landed small jobs just sitting in the parking lot and being approached by someone needing a welder, and when I have very little clients I took those small jobs because one of them may lead to a bigger job. Now I only have big clients that keep me fat and happy.

Your humility, respect for others in the trade and desire to improve will serve you well. Be blessed and best of luck.

My welding truck is a 2008 Ford ranger 2wd standard w/a 2.0 L. A 225A holbart on back with boxes on board for tools and cables. With air bags, a very capable vehicle, with only 80 thousand kilometers. All my other welders are Lincoln. Except my tig.

I’ve been welding since I was in high school (93). Most of my construction career I’ve been a certified fracture critical welder until I moved in to management about 10 years ago. I do have a welding side hustle just to support my bow hunting habits. I have a portable welder and I just bought the Vulcan 220 and it is a very good welder no regrets. I also have a 2001 f350 with the 7.3 I bought new. It is my go to truck. I prefer driving it over my good truck. I would definitely say you have good equipment and are headed in the right direction. Keep your head up and you will do fine 👍

I have a Miller multimatic 215, I’m currently doing the car thing. But I’m literally just giving this a go, got my first gig tomorrow on a dirt modified racecar. Been welding 11 years I’ve been awful in the past with financials but I’m 27 and I gotta get something figured out. Not sure how to price anything yet ha, but the guy took the price after showing my work so if word of mouth works as well as it does with our carpentry business I think I’ll be fine! Just gotta work on funding for a truck

Get it bro. I work full time in a fab shop now but I’ve been running my own rig on the side and I’m itching to break off and just do my own thing full time. Videos like this reassure me that I’ll be making the right decision. Keep up the good work brotha 👊

I know it’s a year old. But great video. I agree, you have to look the part when starting. All you have is your word and equipment when starting.

Ive been wanting to go from the 140 titanium multiprocessor to the omnipro 220 haha. I have a bunch of the stuff he is recommending plus more. I do the bauer route. I do need to buy the 1/2 inch high torque impact. I have the 3/8 one but it doesnt help on hard stuff. I started with the 301 piece pittaburg set but going to upgrade to icon stuff in the future.

Very informative, I like how you broke down what's needed to get started. Maybe you can share how you got up-to-speed on your welding knowledge, tips on how we can get educated, and share some footage of your finished projects?

I ran a full 1 pound spool just padding beads on a 1/4 plate with the mig max 215 and never hit duty cycle on 110. Some of those Vulcan machines are seriously underrated.

Great video but What about the Generator to run the welder and charge batteries. you talked about the truck but you forgot about the big Generator sitting on it.
