The most amazing thing about the Sgt Pepper album may be that it was recorded only 3 years after I Want to Hold Your Hand, Ed Sullivan, Hard Day's Night, etc. The speed and totality of their musical evolution is mind-blowing to this day.

"Pass the salt and pepper"

My God - to take that simple, every day comment that everyone on earth can hear a hundred times in a week at lunch, dinner, at home, or on the airplane that we all hear and say every day, and for that to make you think he said "Sgt Pepper", then for that to be the driving impetus for the light bulb in your head to take that into the studio and make the greatest album ever, it's just unimaginable for us mere mortal souls.

"Pass the salt and I will never hear or say that again the same way!

Pet Sounds also contributed a lot to Paul stepping up his game during this time period.

If the record company had been told to bugger off and been able to include Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane it would have been a true concept album.

The reason it's their greatest album is because it broke the boundaries of pop music. They singlehandedly changed culture and music forever

What many forget is that The Beatles didn't include their singles on the albums whereas most bands sold albums on the back of single success and the fact they were on the album. Sgt Pepper would have included - Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane as they were recorded at the same time. When you consider that it is even more incredible. I actually put the singles from the period on each digital album but it's hard to know where to put them, so I just put them at the end.
