Found this amazing 1960s Chinese...maybe Taiwanese...pop rock (Brigitte Bardot-ish) gem at a flea market.

Every song on this album rules, but my personal favorites can be found at:

People who tend to listen only to music of their own language miss out lots of good music from other parts of the world. English dominates everywhere, which is sad because there are truly great singers from other than european countries, both vintage and new. This upload is no exception.

The singer's name is Weng Qianyu; she is more commonly known under the pseudonym she has used as an actor in films: Judy Ongg. She was born in 1950 in Taiwan; her first TV role was in 1961; she has acted the lead role in 9 films and about 30 television serials. She has also recorded about 40 albums. The title of this album, Hē bù wán de chá, might be translated as "Always drinking tea."

I love this. It's good to hear other stuff outside of the American/British music machine. I was just listening to Brazilian singer Astrid Gilberto. It's also gorgeous. Look up the Best Of Astrid Gilberto. These two will be part of my Summer music

Judy Ongg (翁倩玉) is a Taiwanese artist debut in Japan in the 60's. She sings in Japanese, Mandarin, English and Cantonese. You can find most of her records under labels like Nippon Columbia, CBS/Sony, Haishan, Eastworld (Toshiba-EMI) etc.

Many of the Mandarin songs she sings are actually cover version of her own Japanese songs, there are 9 of them in this particular album for instance.

This is the soundtrack from the movie about a missing heir and a doppelganger arranged to swindle the fortune. It all worked out at the end. Cute movie. I think Judy Ong's father wrote a number of the songs.
