I think he’s talking more concept based films that were crazy in the 90’s, bank heists and panic rooms

Usa film industry is more a theme park nowadays. Martin Scorsese said it but I happen to agree with him

This interview is decades old. Hes talking about movies that a lot of people agreeing with him here probably love, not the MCU and Fast movies.

He really does make a lot of sense here, there's so many modern movies where you could guess about 90% of the movie based on the first few scenes or even just off promotional material. Tarantino's movies aren't always hitting you with twists and shocks, but yet you could almost never at any point in his movies guess what will be going on in the movie ten minutes later. The worlds within his films are far too dynamic for that, seemingly unknown factors come into play all the time that veer the events of the story into new directions, much like the real world. Of course this is kind of an illusion since really every event that happens is chosen to happen because it'll progress his characters arcs and gradually bring us towards a satisfying conclusion, but being able to do that while simultaneously convincing the viewers that everything was spontaneous and natural in the same way the real world is does wonders for the viewers immersion

I remember someone saying once that in Germany, German films are made for a German audience.
Japanese films are made for a Japanese audience.

While American films are made for the widest possible audience for the maximum amount of profit.

Whenever Tarantino talks, he reminds me of Quagmire.

He's right. Take a look at Pulp Fiction. You had no idea where Django was going to be next until that scene arrived. Or Pulp Fiction, same deal. Every scene buolt on previous scenes, but the audience didn't know where the story would go until it got there. Nowadays, every movie opens up with the situation. Thanos is coming; well now I know that Thanos is going to be stoped kinda deal.

It started with T.V taking one or two shows and now most shows are reality t.v. it's cheap to make and then most movies are marvel comic books. It would be nice to have a story based movie once and while.

Hollywood today tries to sell an action sequence and explosions...no story, dialog or acting needed

He explains it so perfectly here… Pulp Fiction literally constantly unfolds as a story, while something like Avengers (2012) is just bad event happens, and that’s it. Now Infinity War and Endgame are very different, the story very much keeps unfolding, with Thanos getting stronger and time resetting and Tony Stark’s sacrifice, everything just feels like something that would happen (if superheroes and magic existed). Things keep happening, while in Avengers 1 the aliens just enter our reality and they beat them. That’s it. And no matter how big the stakes are, the situation is always the same in every movie like that now, in Phase 4 Marvel. They tell situations, not stories.

"Sweet Dreams are made of This" the perfect background music for a short about Hollywood films.

I can't take this movie seriously when you show recent movies when the video is the from the 90's

It’s like comparing fast food to home cooked. Made with love rather than a process.

He's right. It's near impossible to find a well written Hollywood movie from the last 15 years

He’s absolutely correct - most US movies now suck
