2023 Mercedes-EQ EQE | The ELECTRIC, Luxury Family Sedan

When shopping the Mercedes-EQ lineup, its all-electric sub-brand, shoppers will discover three models: two SUVs and a sedan but only one is priced from less than $100,000. However, many more are on the way over the next several years including more attainable EVs with sticker prices requiring slightly less financial gravitas. Complimenting the already available EQS Sedan and SUV is the forthcoming EQE in both car and utility vehicle variants. This week I’m taking in the EQE 500 Sedan, an EQS clone with a shorter wheelbase, scheduled to arrive at dealerships in the first quarter of 2023.

MSRP as-tested (est.): $95,000

I don’t know why it had to look so odd. A big reason Tesla was successful is that they were the first brand to assert that you can be both green, fast, and attractive. Mercedes would have been better off keeping the regular E class styling

I want to like the EQE, but the styling is definitely a let down. Let's hope the refresh looks better! LOL

When it first came out I didn't like the design much but it has grown on me ever since. Design wise Taycan and E tron gt are still the best imo.

Our 2019 A220 was long on flash (ambient lighting, chatty interface) and short on Mercedes quality. The more things change…

I like the relatively conservative exterior design. The high initial cost and too many bells and whistles make it an expensive car to own over its lifetime. It should last 200k miles if the battery technology holds up.

THE BEST REVIEW, I HAVE THIS CAR. 350 4matic...my only complain is the heavy door, hard to open, not Mercedes like characteristics

Hi Steve, how do you think this EQE compares to the Electrified G80 you reviewed a few months ago? They seem to be the only current electric cars in this class in the US and their prices overlap (though I know the G80 only comes loaded and dual motor).

It's not a bad looking car but the front end does remind me of the Chrysler 200.

Agree that it needs more panache. I do love that gorgeous Cardinal Red!

It seems to me that just about all EVs have the same range, more or less, and the same charging times, more or less, and cost about the same, more or less.

Needs to look different from the eqs. The eqe ruins the exclusivity of the eqs

Mercedes isn't what it once was. this car looks to be worth about 60k not 90.

There was a time when new hybrid and EV's were designed to cut through the air, looks be damned because nobody was going to buy it on looks and the car lovers shun these abominations. Even Toyota has figured out that the Prius was just too much of an eyesore that it needed a redesign to compete with all the other automakers designs. Here comes Mercedes with the "Let's stand out by filling people's eyes with utter crap and fill in the void left by everyone else who redesigned their cars to look better". Looking like the concept of an 80's Passat is not what a $90K car should be.

Two SUVs. There are already EQC, EQB, EQA rolling on road in Europe.

I really don't like the grill...on any of them

It is a nice car overall, but honestly at $90k it is overpriced and has a somewhat tragic look exterior.
