Christmas Time In The Swiss Alps | Basel, Lucerne, Interlaken

Показать описание
Hello and welcome to my video about Christmas time in Switzerland.
I recently had the opportunity to spend a weekend in Basel in December. Basel is a beautiful and enchanting city right next to France and Germany. It has a cute old town and is right next to the Rhine river. Thanks to the amazing train system in Switzerland, I also made two trips to nearby locations.
The first trip was to Lucerne. Lucerne is often considered the most beautiful city in the country. Fortunately, I arrived during heavy snow which made this place look even more magical. I strolled around small alleys in the medieval Old Town, had great views of Lake Lucerne and the mountainous backdrop and ate some sweets in the Christmas market.
On my second day, I got up early to catch a train to Interlaken, which is famous for its mountain ranges and amount of adventures and activities in the region. However, I mainly wanted to get to the “Top Of Europe”, which is a platform at 3.454 meters (around 11,300 feet) above sea level. As you can imagine, it gets incredibly cold in December. The outdoor temperature display showed -23°C (around -9°F, or a January Playoff game at Lambeau Field…).
There are two ways to get to Top of Europe from Interlaken. I chose the train to Grindelwald then the gondola to the Eiger Glacier and finally the train through the mountain to the Jungfraujoch, which is the highest train station in Europe. This journey alone was already worth the trip, because of the amazing views of the valley and the infamous North Face of the Eiger.
On top, because of the cold, you could not be outside on the platform for too long, but there are a lot of things to experience in the building, like the ice sculptures carved into the glacier and a small chocolate factory.
It was a super fun trip to do in the winter, but I’m pretty sure that I’ll return in the summer some day to visit more of this country!
I hope you enjoy the video! If you do, please feel free to like it and subscribe to my channel to not miss my future travels! :)
