Resident of manitoba here (home of polar bear capital), you really dont realize how big a polar bear is until you're up close. Holy hell, they're big. I got to visit an orphaned one in rehabilitation (through a glass wall) and i have literally never felt so tiny and fragile compared to an animal. The paws were like the size of my chest

One Major advantage the Kodiak bears have is that they live in bear utopia where there's plenty of food and rich environment while the polar bear lives in the most harsh conditions

I've never seen any stats showing that kodiak bears are larger than polar bears. Not only are polar bear taller on all four and taller standing, but they also outweigh kodiaks by a couple hundred pounds.

I lived in Nunavut for years. The only reason they might be smaller by their average today, is because of the melting ice floes, which they need to hunt their fill properly. About 10 plus years ago, a 14 foot polar bear walked right through the middle of Tuk. It had a 16” paw span. The Inuit laugh at our recorded largest polar bear on record. At least they sure laughed at me when I told them of the largest polar bear on record. The saying goes like this, black fight back, brown lay down, white say good night. And if you see a polar bear, he/she has seen you for at least 20 minutes, just enough time to decide if it’s going to eat you. And they are very fast.
