Balinese open their New Year in silence. This called Nyepi Day, day of silence which fall on the day following the dark moon of spring equinox, and opens a new year of Saka Hindu era which began in 78 A.D.
Nyepi is a day to make and keep the balance of nature. On the day itself, every street is quiet - there nobody doing their normal activities. On Nyepi day the world expected to be clean and everything start a new.
From the religious & philosophy point of view, Nyepi is meant to be a day of self introspection to decide on values, e.g. humanity, love, patience, kindness, etc that should keep forever.
