As a kid, I always liked this song, its "catchy". Then one day, it was on the radio, and my mom asked if I knew that it was controversial when it first came out, maybe banned in places. I went "no... what, why?" Then she pointed out the lyric
"I'm glad I'm a man... so is Lola". I paused a moment, then started laughing hard enough my face hurt.

The Kinks had so many hits - Waterloo Sunset is a really beautiful song.

Rumor has it that the song was inspired by what happened to their manager one night at a night club where he flirted with a lady that turned out to be a man.

I was a young teenager when this song came out and It was well loved and popular back then. It wasn't till maybe 15-20 years that I realized what it was about.

That old classic was fun to hear, and of course a funny ending with the lyrics where we find out Lola is a guy, haha! ! Yes, he's British, but there are several different British accents depending on where in the country the person is from (just like there are several different American accents). I couldn't believe it when I saw this, but that is the same drum kit I got for the first time when I was a teenager! I still have it! It's exactly the same drum kit! Wow! haha! :)

I love your very innocent delightful reaction to this song, it works on so many level whether you go into the hilariously funny deeper meaning of this song or just enjoy it for it's musicality.

Nothing wrong with a bit of cross-dressing on a Friday afternoon - the harder the day, the shorter the dress!!!! ;-) I think the songs lyrics went over our lovely ladies heads, but never mind, they are great musical enthusiasts!

I love your reaction & appreciation of this amazing song from my childhood. I remember thinking this was the most passionate love song & was amazed & amused at discovering it's true meaning. A very clever song delivered sincerely & without irony

Hi ladies! I love this great channel. Excellent reactions! The Kinks are an incredible band. Lola is a classic, very popular in the UK and in the US. The Davies brothers Ray and Dave have been heading this band since the 60's. I saw them in concert back in the mid 70's at The Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. Awesome show!

Yes, the Kinks were a British group, complete with the accent.

Some of you learned people will know that The Kinks had to change one word in this song for legal reasons.
They had to change Coca Cola to Cherry Cola.
There is another REACTION Video on You Tube where I heard them say Coca Cola.

the steel guitar was a perfect choice for this track, I only play normal acoustic but I'd love to try steel guitar.

Well Ladies what can I say... You found a treasure. This is one of my all time favorite bands from Great Britain.. Many great songs from them.. Front man Singer Ray Davies is the Ultimate Storyteller. His brother Dave is to his left.
Shakespeare of Rock Music I like to call him. This is one of there most known and played songs.. circa 1970

RAY DAVIS is the singer song writer, his brother Dave on lead guitar, Rays lyrics were often quite humorous like this one; about a man mistaking a transvestite for a real woman .

Ray Davies was the best songwriter period. The explosion of British music of the mid 60's was incredible.
I was 16 in 1965 and just grew along with the music. God! what a fantastic time.
