My goal (if you can call it that) is to stay more focused on my lesson plan and not get distracted with the latest video by trying to play the lesson I saw on YouTube. I know I can't improve if I keep jumping all over the place but it is so easy to go there.

Gabe, I played my first gig at age 15. Next week I’ll be 55, and I’ve been playing in bands the whole time. I can attest to technique!

Granted I’ve be luckily to have an extensive background in marching percussion, WGI and DCI, but with out technique you become more tired, dent your heads more and crack your cymbals. What ever technique you choose it’s best to be consistent with technique.

I’m definitely learning double bass, Latin Jazz and more exotic beats to really separate limbs and work on linear drumming

This is perfect, I’ve been in a fat plateau lately. I’ve been scared to even change up the way my kit is set up and tuned, and the second that I changed it up even a little bit, it inspired new ideas. I think that no matter how small, making a physical change to your kit can make a huge difference!

Looking to improve my left hand work. I'm also going back to having two rack toms on the kit. Plus I will be picking up a nice pair of Hi-Hats for jazz and fusion. I've been playing the same hats since 1986 which are awesome for Rock and Metal but not so much for the other two genre's I mentioned. Happy New Year and keep posting the great videos!
