I don’t mention this, but gyoza can be cooked in various ways:

1. Pan-Frying (Yaki Gyoza): This is what’s shown in the video, and is most common. Gyoza are first fried in a pan until the bottoms are crispy, then steamed with a bit of water.

2. Boiling (Sui Gyoza): Gyoza are boiled in water or broth until cooked through.

3. Steaming: Gyoza are placed in a steamer basket and cooked until the wrappers are soft and translucent.

4. Deep-Frying (Age Gyoza): Gyoza are fully immersed in hot oil and fried until golden brown and crispy all over.

Dumplings are such an integral part of Asian cuisine, even in India we have sweet and savoury versions of dumplings. The crispy bottoms are my favourite part of gyoza!

I just made these yesterday for a potluck and they were so good. They were super easy. I really love that you have full recipes on your blog.

Am definitely going to try this, thank you! Also, side note, I love your food blog! It's so beautifully organised, and I really appreciate how you have the US and the M measure units available with the recipes. Thanks!

Gyoza is my childhood food. My mom used to make gyoza the size of a hotdog that we called “mega-gyoza”😂 she said it was a lot easier to cook that way, since she used to usually make probably 60 or so of the normal size at a time. We would just DEMOLISH those.

These remind me of when I was a kid and my Japanese neighbor would bring these over for our family. Have you ever made them with rice flour or rice paper wrappings?
