Never did i ever imagine that I would be so influenced by one thinker in my life. From the first time I heard him speak from that particular video on YouTube, I knew he was different. His style was particularly different and one that I loved.

Over the years of listening to Alan Watts and comparing him to other great figures, I realize that there were some who were parallel to him in terms of (philosophical) intellect and perhaps even greater. But it was he style. He was damn right brilliant, but he didn't make a big deal of it. All he was really interested in was to share this complex mystical and religious ideas to the world through his writings in the most concise manner. No wonder he was regarded as a "bodhisattva" by Suzuki. He was a self styled "Philosophical entertainer". The Indian spiritual writer, Deepak Chopra called him a "religious POLYMATH". He was truly one of a kind. And the world still has a lot to learn from the teachings of this wise sage.

I was atheist leaning. But it occurred to me that it's strange to insist that something doesn't exist if I don't know what it is. So I became fully agnostic, open to whatever presented itself. I found an intelligence far beyond my own operating in my life. Eventually when someone would talk about their experience with God, it sounded familiar to an uncanny degree ... so I began to speak to It.

I actually thought up "atheism in the name of God" independently in my own thinking. When I eventually heard Alan Watts use the phrase I laughed myself silly. I would have loved to sit down with him to talk, argue, and listen to birds.
