Boss DM-101 Analog Delay: Synth & Groovebox Test Drive!

REAL analog delay is back and better than ever! Boss's new DM-101 Delay Machine pedal may not be designed with line level gear or studio use in mind primarily, but it is still viable when utilized in an effects loop (and care is taken with the input level) thanks to its direct effect output mode, and it sounds absolutely beautiful!

this hint about the input level !!! Thank you. I initially was disappointed by the sound... it was all to much. Especially the feedback was easily going crazy. Now with very low input level it sounds way better and i still can overdrive it if i feel like

This is such a cool video. A Re-amper would take the line level feed from your synths, interface or mixer and convert it back to HiZ or Guitar level. If you have that, that opens up a load of other guitar fx pedals. Also, you don't look at the midi capabilities; just imagine automating the amount of parameters on it would be out of this world.

Seems strange they didn't include the Guitar/Line input selection as on the RE-202. Especially as it seems like almost the same chassis.

Sweet! I could almost here the tagline for one of my favorite channels, “Welcome to the Deep Space House Mix Show, every Friday on YouTube!”

They straight up named it Depeche Mode 101. Had that tour oversized poster up for years and still do.

The first video of 10 with DM101 whereas demomaker understood how delay could work in a musical way

I wouldn't like to think that Roland offered no way to change the input level. But yeah...no "LINE / INST" switch. That would leave accessing the firmware via the USB port (I should HOPE!) and changing it there. Maybe. Although, given that pedals are viewed sometimes as a more "live player" device, I find it hard to believe that they couldn't be bothered to just add a switch with the appropriate pad.

But then, I own pretty much zero new Roland or Boss stuff. Haven't thought that the ACB modelling sounded worth a damn, and the COSM architecture before that was about as exciting as watching paint dry, at least in sonic terms.

Gotta give them props for the old-skool A/DA-style case, tho. Those things are just about nuke-proof. But with the current state of older outboard gear and how cheap it is (yes, even on rack gear that can eat the DM101 for lunch) and the really interesting stuff out of China in the past few years, I think Roland's not really thought this out carefully. That $500 street price (in the USA) is a dealbreaker; I can spend that on used rack effects and stompboxes and come out ahead. Roland's just resting on their laurels right now...and that might turn out to be the WRONG idea!

Hi, wonderful channel!
but if I want to use it as an external effect on my DJ mixer (model 1.4) in return 1, can it work? being that it has mono input, on the mixer I have stereo output.... now I'm using a boss DD7 and I would like to replace it. thanks from Swiss!

No line level overlooking synth geeks in 2023? Would the cost go up by much to offer line level even if its still just mono in?
