Chinese officials issue the first-ever 'red alert' as record high levels of smog cover Beijing. With pollution levels having reached 40 times what's considered safe by the World Health Organization, schools have been urged to close and outdoor construction has been halted.

Every country that went through industrialization experienced similar levels of pollution. So rather than sitting there idly and complaining about it, why no go to university and learn to clean up this complicated mess.

Looks reem, any good hotels where I could watch the smog.

I was there in 2010 in May in several cities, it was clear in all the major cities, but when I got back to my hotel I blew my nose I had black snot. You can't see this stuff most of the time, except for the L.A. haze hanging over in the far off distance. The surface water and soil are supposed to be bad, but you can smell a chemical smell in some cities that's not petrol or natural like sewage, something equivalent to cleaning supplies you would use to wash bathrooms. I saw only one or two birds at a time, no flies or mosquitoes and insects were rare, no pigeons (did see them at a food market).

How about we build vacuums that suck all that smog, and then collect it, compress it into bricks. Then we coat them and make them safe for building. How does that sound?
