Phishing Scams and how to protect yourself

Even if you don't know the term 'phishing scam', chances are you've already been targeted by many of them. A phishing scam is when someone uses a genuine-looking e-mail, login page, SMS, or whatever to fool you into giving up personal data - like logins, passwords, card and banking info, etc. They often involve some kind of 'hook' that makes you worried or scared. When that happens, you stop thinking and fall into the trap. But these scams are very easy to avoid with a bit of extra attention. I'll show an example of a phishing scam I received recently and then take it apart piece by piece so that next time, you'll know exactly what to look for to protect yourself.

I get fishing scams every now and then. I check their email address, then their links, the grammar in the letter, spelling, etc.
Scotty, thanks for sharing.

This is a good video! This stuff is important for people to be aware of.

For phone scams.., The 'bank' reached out? Sure they did. Tell them you're going to hang up and call the 1-800 number on the back of your bank card to ask if they have legit business with you. If they're the real bank, they'll be perfectly supportive of this confirmation approach.

This happened to me but with PayPal. I noticed all the things you pointed out. I even went to PayPal’s website and it was a spot on match. I logged into the official PP account with my true credentials no problem. Then I tried to log in to my true account with bogus credentials and got blocked. The I logged into the bogus PP account with this username and password and combo.
Username: KissMy
Password: Ass
It came back with...

Thank you, you are now logged in...
THESE people are scum.

The lengths these scammers go thru to try create and set up the scam, replicating websites to near identical URL's then fall apart with bad spelling and grammar... Showing them up to be bogus. You think if they can use code and are so savvy and sophisticated with computer wizardry they wouldn't stumble with basic vocabulary. 😅😜😂
