Im polish. This funky looking P with a rounded W stands for Polska Walcząca meaning Poland Fighting. This symbol has basically been the logo for the uprising. It's also sometimes called "the anchor" and drawn with pointy, hook-like sides on the W.

Warsaw was completely destroyed during the uprising, and yet today Warsaw looks beautiful and combines modern skyscrapers and old tenement houses.

I read somewhere that when the Germans were having trouble with the Uprising, they started marching women and Children directly in front of the tanks in the areas controlled by the Resistance so they won't get attacked. Humans can be quite cruel in War.
