my son was a provincial player and attended training camps in Florida during the summer. The noticeable difference was articulated to me by the American coaches. They said Canadian players had great learned skills and listened to the coaches intently whereas the American players were taught to be more aggressive. I remember American coaches screaming at the players to engage and be aggressive. One shouted " You have five fouls, use them ". Canada usually is weak on rebounding and getting pushed around. I also see a significant difference in how referees approach games. Canadian referees call "touch" fouls where there is very little contact whereas American referees will let contact take place within reason. Canadian players learn this soft style of play and it gets in their heads.
