Footage of Martini Racing rally team testing their brand new 4WD Group B weapon Lancia Delta S4 for first time on snow near Rovaniemi (Lapland Finland) with rally legend Markku Alén behind the wheel. The test took place two weeks after the 1985 Lombard RAC Rally where the S4 had made its WRC debut - and took a 1-2 victory right away thanks to Henri Toivonen and Alén. Despite the win in the debut event there was still a lot of work to be done and tested in Lapland, since the handling and setup of the monster car were far from complete.

This is why Lancia were always ahead of the field. Not resting on their laurels from a recent victory, but continuing to develop the car.
Such a sharp contrast from the clowns at Ford M-Sport who think a multi-storey office block building is required in the service park, when your cars aren't competitive.

I was a spectator at the 1985 RAC Rally, and the S4 simply demolished the opposition.

All Group B Lancia cars were all built for one thing - going as fast as possible between two points - of course we will never know the real horsepower that these cars developed but I can say this - it was way more than what they claimed. This was the era of real fast racing, not like the boring stuff of today.

A 34 anni di distanza fa ancora accapponare la pelle, non c'è niente di paragonabile in questo momento, neanche le WRC plus, nemmeno il rombo. Eppoi Alen ci metteva l'anima anche nei test, si calava nel ruolo, entrava in trance agonistica e non dava confidenza a nessuno fintanto che durava il test o la prova speciale. Maximum attack.

Exactly 28 years later.... Group B has died, Henri Toivonen has died, RALLY has died.... Please bring me back to these days.... THOSE WERE THE DAYS DAYS :)

If you can portray the most badass rally vehicle - this is it. Delta S4 without the backframe, nor rear lights. And pure sound.

We needed to wait almost 40 years to get back those horsepowers in WRC cars and still they don't have the same spirit like group B had.

I really wish I were born earlier than 1991. I missed so much in rallying. Current WRC seems to lack alot of things. :(

la fanaleria in teoria ci sarebbe, è stata brutalmente segata, forse avevano dei problemi di accumulo neve! Ho notato che al minuto 3:07, ci sono due terminali affiancati nello scarico lato guida, invece che sovrapposti.A pensarci, in un'intervista Biasion fece notare la vicinanza del serbatoio ai collettori di scarico subito dietro i sedili dell'auto (infatti quando Toivonen uscì di strada, la macchina esplose subito)...l'unico dubbio è sul perchè si muove!!!! Semmai lo chiedo a Volta!! =)
