The 7 Ages Of American History | The New Deal Era

To some, American history, from the Colonial Period to the Modern day, might appear a mostly consistent blur of policy progressing down a singular path, but in reality, American History and Party Politics are far more complex than you might think. Today we explore the history of America's most significant Presidents, Political Parties, and National Goals; how precisely they repeatedly changed America in to what might easily be considered a new country all together, how they rose and fell, and why they have led us to where we are today.

While Theodore Roosevelt had kicked off the era of American Progressivism, it would be his distant cousin, Franklin Delano Roosevelt who brought the Progressive Era to its next phase.

American Progressivism was characterized by strong government, responsible business, social moralism, and a desire for foreign intervention, this last facet being a manifestation of the United States having finally come into its own as an industrial power, and an equal to many of the Great Powers of the day, which Theodore Roosevelt asserted as meaning the U.S had a global responsibility to take on a global mindset rather than an isolationist one.

FDR would be the man to bring Theodore Roosevelt's vision to reality by shaping the United States up to assume the role of global leadership in the aftermath of World War 2, transforming America into a full on Superpower.

Perhaps what FDR is best known for, however, is his tackling of the Great Depression in the United States with his New Deal policies. Roosevelt would create a new political establishment known as the New Deal Coalition, who continued his policies of providing social services for the public, government aid for the needy, investing heavily in public works and infrastructure, and fighting for the cause of civil rights.

In this installment of the 7 Ages of America documentary series, we bring you the history of the New Deal Era, begun by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and carried on by his successors, Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, and Lyndon Johnson.

This era demonstrates how idealism is a product of comfort and success. The better things are, the more equality we demand. The worse things are, the more stability we demand.

FDR reading about Thomas Jefferson: "He's literally me."

Here's an interesting fact, President Truman formed a friendship with Former President Herbert Hoover and sought his advice,  in regards to helping Europe recover from WW2. Hoover himself organised shipments of food to relive hunger in Europe after WW1.
(I think Hoover was the only other living President at this time.)

I'd also like to say that the video was throughly entertaining, informative, I learned quite a bit and I look forward to the next instalment.

The long wait was worth it. This is probably your best video yet of this series. I especially appreciate it how you don’t let your political biases steer the narrative of this video and put in great effort to be as objective as possible in your approach to the subjects mentioned.

The Tree of Liberty must be shed with the blood of patriots & tyrants”.

When you started talking about the tactics of the attack on Pearl Harbor and how the Carriers werent there, it made me realize just how shallow military planning can be compared to the intricate thought of statesmenship.

Obviously defense is critical, and a nation must be able to defend itself and win wars, but there is so much more to running a nation, to making it thrive and prosper, especially in turbulent and changing times.

This series is so interesting and provides such incredible depth in American history that i have not seen that much elsewhere. Incredible work, and hope to see you contribute to american history one day rather than just explain it.

Between your videos - especially this series - and Alternate History Hub's, I've been able to really think through things as I rework my GURPS 'Dixie-7' alternate history campaign background. Glad to see the series continuing, and look forward to you take on a more interesting period of American political history. (I myself didn't really become interested in politics, both American and Canadian, until Reagan's second term, even though I was keenly aware at least to Canadian politics thanks in part to my grandparent's involvement with the NDP up here.)

I've always been fascinated about FDR. Even though I'm not from the US nor have relatives live under him, I generally see him as an American figure and the man who brought the US out of depression, He also helped create thousands of jobs for the poor and the homeless while also providing for them. Under him the US saw its full industrial capacity and it's military capacity. I also deeply like him mainly because of his leftist policies. Overall he was extremely based. 10/10

That jab at Baptists caught me off guard. Now I must secede from the video 😂

I feel most "conservative" southern democrats were just moderate new dealers. Most of the members of the "conservative" democrats had supported the New Deal in FDR's first term and primarily focused on balancing the budget and opposing interventionism.
