How to knit a balaclava

Trend alert! This has to be my most bandwagon-jumping video yet, and YET, balaclavas are a time-honored, knitwear staple. They're a three-in-one cozy vibes miracle garment! Start knitting!

Shortcuts:
(You'll need them -- honestly I wasn't planning on this video being five hours long...):

03:44 -- Sectioning off the hole for the face.
11:16 -- Adding stitches back on for the top of the frame.
16:35 -- An impromptu tutorial on decreasing in the round that no one asked for and lasts way too long.
25:13 -- Picking up stitches for the frame.
32:32 -- The end result!

Great project, looks not too complicated. I was thinking that maybe a few decreases in the ribbing around the face opening would help hold it more securely to your face. Also, it struck me when you said about it looking medieval that using a silver metallic yarn would be great for cosplay or LARPing costumes to create a piece of "chain mail" for the head.

LOL, I think you look good in your Balaclava. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am just finishing a sweater and I think I will just manage to knit your balaclava out of the rest I think I will have left. Much love from New Zealand.

Hi. My nephew (10 yrs), has been asking me for a while now to knit him a balaclava/ski mask.
I have now found your tutorial, and have gone through all your tutorials to try and find this, but no joy. The only thing is, I'm not sure on how many stitches to cast on/put on hold/pick up etc., if you could help or do a tutorial for children's sizes, that would be awesome.
Thank you

I want to knit on 2 needles and using 3 ply wool do how many stitches should I cast on. I don't have 4 pointed needles which you r doing this project.
