How to add different materials on one mesh in blender 2.9

Adding a single material to an object is easy, thankfully adding multiple materials to an object is also easy and you can even make then use different materials for interesting effects.

In this tutorial we show you how to add multiple materials to a single mesh and we show you how to add different material types to a single mesh in blender 2.9

If you want to add glassy materials with emission materials on the same object or perhaps you want to mix both materials then this is the blender tutorial for you.

Something I'm doing that is giving me headache. I selected the face, and made a ssigned a colout for my material and instantly, before I can press assign, the whole bloody mesh takes the colour!! Where I went wrong?

It's still applying material to the whole mesh when I select faces and apply material. I figured out the solution (or one that works): I didn't have a second one on the list. I was going to the drop down menu and trying to apply a different one from there, and Blender just doesn't let you do it that way for some reason. You have to have the different materials showing in the box at the top in order for it to use different materials on the same mesh.

I am trying to render a slab. On the surface is tilesand aroung the slab is painted white and I am having great difficulty in trying to attain that. The whole slad takes uo the tiles and when I try what is shown, the whole slab reverts back to white! Frustrating at times!

I thought you were going to show "how to add different materials on one mesh in Blender" but instead we have to watch you spend too much time changing the
Blender environment. Then you just had to add subdivision to the monkey. So after a minute I guessed I had clicked on the wrong tutorial. Thankfully I found a video that explained
how to add different materials on one mesh in Blender that was only 2 minutes long.
