In this video I discuss the yoga pose Happy Baby, Ananda Balasana. This is a common pose in a yoga class or home practice. But, sometimes people force themselves, turning what is meant to be a delicious relaxing asana into something that is tense or worse is painful and hurts. I'll demonstrate how to do happy baby, noticing movement compensations during the exercise, contraindications of this stretch. Plus I'll share three variations and modifications to get more out of the pose.

At 46 yo and my youngest son just turned one last week, I’ve been doing happy baby for years and didn’t know it! Its when I put my feet on their belly and hold there hands and lift them up and down. Another great video with alternative options!

Thank you for this great video and the very precise explanations! I'm one of those people who pull their heads and shoulders up - is there another training option besides the pillow under the head - counteracting the lifting of the head - to achieve the Happy Baby Pose exactly?
