After 44 years, it's hard to imagine that there are still mysteries to be uncovered in Star Wars, but today marks yet another fascinating discovery! We've finally decoded the text inside the iconic TIE fighter cockpit computer displays!

Special thanks to Ender Smith, for providing his amazing research skills as well as reconstructing the font used in this video, available here:

This font is going to be in every other Star Wars fan film from here to eternity, or at least it should be. It appears to instantly imbue that feeling of 70s futurism to anything it’s pasted on, in a way that isn’t at all overused or cliche.

Lucas film has a multi-million dollar budget for "Rogue One" to recreate the OG aesthetic of the targeting computer, yet this guy finds the original font on his own time and determination. Pay him.

"Star wars font researcher." Sweet jesus we're hitting levels of niche that shouldn't be possible, and I love it! Seriously, good work finding this font and recreating it.

“VELOS” in aviation (and probably other areas as well) VLOS stands for “Visual Line Of Sight” maybe the “E” between the V and L means “Electronic”. I know when we verbally say “VLOS” it does phonetically sound like VELOS ( Vee-Loss).

This is exactly the sort of delightful deep dive on obscure production details that I love. Excellent work!

Guy finds a text in SW that he can't decipher.
He contacts and do research to find out what it means by finding the correct font.
He gives the font to download to everyone.

All of this in a clear and profound video under 7 minutes without a clickbaited title.

You're the hero of our times.

There are nerds, then there are geeky nerds and then there are Star Wars fans. This was a truly epic quest and I'm very glad you guys found the original font.

I'm a simple man, I see EC in my feed, I immediately click the video without even reading the title

This is quite possibly the most obscure and in-depth single background element from the series that you have delved into and I am eternally thankful to you for doing it. Also kudos for reviving such a cool dead font!

I remember 'dry transfers' also being available as toys. You could get a sheet with, say, comic characters and rub them with a pencil to transfer them to a piece of paper to make your own scenes and stuff like that.

QATech sounds like a manufacturer's name, I'd guess the targeting module is the "Velos" type. Warning at the end is probably the computer noting an alert that the "QATech Velos" has detected, like maybe the sensor specifically reads the targets shields, and the warning was saying "the enemy ship has changed it's shield power" or something.

The fact that you guys dig up that font and brought it back has me overjoyed. That’s amazing

Tiny thing I found: I think the Chariot font was used on the TIE pilot helmets!

I have created those kinds of circular graphics in Abode Illustrator and it can take hours just to complete one of them. Appreciate this man's work.

EC’s just gonna make a new Star Wars trilogy all on his own at this point, and somehow more faithful than the original movies to themselves.

This episode blew my mind! Such wonderful piece of detective work and art restoration not to mention your enthusiasm. It's beyond me that such a distinct font has been lost in time. Thank you for sharing this with the community and fans.

This is the kind of stuff that makes me confident that your friend circle, yourself included, is easily the most deserving, perhaps not "qualified" in the Hollywood Insidership sense, but certainly deserving to be given Lucasfilm Collaborator status.

I'm so confident in that claim, that I'm willing to bet any amount of money that Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, or George Lucas himself has seen your content and marveled at its dedication.
