At 5.01 when you start separating the flesh from the shell, is where people often start to struggle, cut themselves, etc.  What they do in Barbados is leave the mature coconut in the sun for a while - so that the expansion of the shell (but not the flesh sphere inside) causes it to loosen.  Then when you crack it open it separates easily.

Last time I opened a coconut for some of that white stuff inside I used a sledgehammer this helped :) so now I can eat the juice and eat the inside of a coconut thumbs up for sure:)!
