I gotta say, as a person who's had the $14 Neewer boom arm for 3+ years with a tlm 103, it holds up pretty well

Still using that $14 boom arm for about 3 years...it's still going strong!

I'm not looking at boom arms right now but currently building my first home studio & just wanted to drop by your most recent video & give a big thanks for what you do. I've found myself watching your videos for just about every piece of equipment i've looked at so far and i'm sure others do the same so from all of us, thank you.

Thank you for talking about the extension of the boom arms! I needed something longer than the 28in from the Neewer one. The 38in reach from the Melon arm is exactly what I need!

I've had the Røde PSA1 for years. I too found that it would move every now and then. I just tighten the pivot points the slightest amount and that fixed my issue, it now holds all the time and is still easy to move.

In Malaysia, the $14 costs $4, The $40 costs $18, The $70 costs $45. But the Rode one remains the same around $100. The Gator Frameworks costs less than Rode, which is around $78.

The best value would be Samsons boom arms. I just recently got the 48 inch one. The build quality is on par with the PSA1. The best part is the overall value considering the price.

If you have a huge desk and need to run your mic over a wall of monitors, give their 48 inch one a look.

I've had the same exact $14 mic arm attached to my blue yeti for 3 years now and it's still in the same exact condition as when I bought it. It gets the job done and I highly recommend it for anyone on an extreme budget although that being said I am upgrading to the $99 rhode arm for my new shure sn7b mic but for a budget the $14 one is a great option

I've had the Røde PSA1 boom arm 2013 and it's still going strong. Feel like it has a superior build quality for lasting long

Great video, I have something to say about the 69$ boom arm tho. I was using this exact model but with another branding on it for the last like 2 years and I loved it... untill the metal cable inside the arm snapped and made the arm completely unusable. When I went back to the amazon page to see if anybody else had these problems it seems that I was pretty lucky that the metal cable didn't break earlier. So I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. I feel more comfortable having a cheap springloaded arm where I could even change out the springs if they ever show signs of wear.

The $14.00 Neewer Boom Arm can be easily strengthened with slightly stronger springs, or adding an additional spring, and maybe some better screws if needed. (I enjoy improving good products to make them better). I have 3 of them. One is supporting a double set of SM-58 mics on a 7" cross bar, and when extended, it supports them just fine after a slight modification. For the money the Neewer Boom arm works just fine for my set ups.

I have an AT2020USB+ and a Rode PSA1 - it works fine, for light mics you just wanna tighten the screws

I've had that Neewer arm for 5 years, and it's still going! Now using an Aston Spirit on it. BUT, it's a nightmare to use. Makes loud clanky noises, and mics with a shock mount will 'droop' very easily.
Thanks for the comparison!

I personally recommend the 14 dollar stand for anyone who has a temporary setup. I have a samson q9u, a decently heavy mic, and the stand is handling the mic pretty well(had it for over 2 years). The reason why is bc I know at any moment I need to move to new house to live in, so I don't want to bring a stand with me everywhere i go. So the 14 dollar stand is literally good enough to hold my mic and if I move to a new place, I won't feel too bad to throw it away or give it away. And if I move to a new place I can just buy a better stand or buy the same stand base on how long I know I'm staying at the new place.

I was looking something for my AT2020 and that detail about the rode arm made me think carefully about the weigh before buy the arm, Thanks a lot!!!!

I wanted to get the Gator boom arm but didn't like that the xlr cable came built in. So I got the Blue boom arm and have been happy with the quality. Had it for a year.

The HEIL PL2T is a great choice & it's $109 at most places & the cables are hidden.HEIL makes very good products & they back what they sell.

About the Blue Compass. If the microphone you use is within the weight range of the arm, you can adjust the spring inside to handle it _(the spring is adjust with a screw inside the part that goes into the base), _ so you don't need to tighten the joints when you move it into position. Just move it around as you wish, _(except for completely collapsed or completely extended so it's flat or straight), _ and it will stay where you leave it. I've used mine since 2019 and the spring system works just like it did when I got it, and I move it around several times a day.
