This seems to be the place to put your bargaining skills to the test!

Having been there in 1979, I can assure you, no, not at all the same.

Weirdly I get a tremendous satisfaction, Gabe, watching your videos and seeing all the places I definitely don't want to go back to again. I don't expect the world to stay a museum for me. Nor would I want it to, but I'm plenty happy to keep my memories of those places from so long ago.

So, thanks for that small service. :-)

Gabriel, I have heard so very much about this market, from everyone the world over! Everyone enthuses about it. There is no one who does not like The Grand Bazaar, I can tell you that, from fashion designers to just your average bargain hunter.

Dang you got it wrong, very wrong. In Turkey you never pay that close to what they say. They're not even trying to rip you off, haggling is a tradition there. You could probably have got them for less than half what you paid.
I bought a print on canvas neat the Blue Mosque, asking price was 150TL, I paid less than 50.
The haggling was friendly over a glass of tea. It's the way things are done there, accept the tea, take your time, be friendly and you'll get a bargain.

sick video! I just came back from visiting a friend in Istanbul. most beautiful city on earth. grand bazaar area has some amazing places in and not in the main zone. out of the main zone good wholesale deals specialty goods. also, if you got a pair of comfortable jeans for 200 lira that is not bad at all. could have spent more elsewhere for worse quality and comfort.

A pair of men’s Levi’s at Kohl’s here in the US is $60-70 full retail, $40 on sale. So if they are authentic, you got a good deal. Even if they are a knock off, if they fit well and you’re happy, well, it’s still not too bad a price, honestly. There is some truth to the saying, “You get what you pay for.” That market seems amazing. I’ve watched other travelers visit there in videos, and it’s pretty full of stuff! 👍🏼✌🏼
