Ancient Egyptians performed a pregnancy test that involved potentially pregnant woman peeing on seeds of barley and wheat. Growth of the plants indicated pregnancy: barely for a boy and wheat for a girl. Later tests have revealed that urine from pregnant woman caused plant growth 70% of the time, while urine from non-pregnant women did not.
