I’m only just realising that the Chinese word for jasmine, ‘茉莉’, ‘mòlì’, is a borrowing from Sanskrit. That’s why it sounds so similar to these Indian words for it.

In Sanskrit there's a similar word
Mallika (मल्लिका) meaning Jasmine, which is a common Hindu Girl name in North India too, often people confuse this with Malika meaning Queen of Arabic origin, both are of different origins & meanings.
