LOL, some of those voices brought back bad voice memories from the 90’s. It was good fun.

They are pretty funny, had no idea Apple devices had those options. I'm surprised how robotic they sound though, Apple clearly haven't spent too much R&D money on them. 😂

I use organ as the voiceover voice on my phone and scare the heck out of my friends at school with it. It’s awesome! Novelty is one of the best sections out there.

I have a crazy idea that might get similer sounding voices to work on Linux and Windows. I will let you know how that goes.

Strange that they changed some of the names, on old MacOS "Jester" used to be called "Hysterical" and "Superstar" used to be called "Princess" which is more fitting

Excellent! I liked the Cellos voice. How do you zoom in during the video and pan around the screen? That doesn’t work very well for me. Thanks for this and all your videos.

unrelated question but I didn't see a place to ask a question about book lights I can take to appointments and anywhere. I have low vision from Elmiron toxicity to the retina. I can make out quite a bit with a bright light and sometimes magnifier. The book lights I'm most familiar with are a single bulb and I would do better with a broader light so I can see equally across both pages. Do you have a recommendation? FYI, I got the Stella Go Light after I watched your review and I love it! I carry it into our sauna to read in there and just all over the house - too bad there's not a baby Stella Go that clips onto a book.

The one after Bubbles starts singing in the hall of the mountain king Jester sounds like me laughing my evil laugh! Supperstar sounds like a French accent! The one after supperstar and the last one sound like robots. Relf explaining the pythagorus formula!

If you thought that Mac had crazy voices like that and that was it, you are totally wrong! There is also this other synthesizer which yes, does sound robotic, but you could get a laugh out of it, and you can actually make it sing. If you remember the early days of screen readers, you'll know, that I'm talking about the dectalk speech synthesizer. It has been around since the 80s, and is still very widely used and popular to this day! Some other people are gonna be posting about dectalk in the comments but I thought I'd get it out there first. To be honest, Dectalk is a bit better than some of the stuff you had way back. It really is! And it could be coming to android. I think that people should learn to appreciate this because you never know if Google is gonna decide to discontinue their TTS engine from android devices. But dectalk wasn't just used in the blind community, oh no no no no no! Even sighted people have at least heard that voice at least once in their life time from the 80s to now. It's still popular despite having much much much muchbetter voices now. And it's apparently open source now, which means it could come to android. Just thought I'd get this comment out of the way.

Sam Cellos is pronounced Chellows like the musical instrument it’s based on.

I hated Whisper it really creeped me out I think I watched a horror movie that had a whispering villain when I was a teen and really can’t stand people whispering.

Hi Sam :)
Kindle Fire haw some really good voices too. I don't really like the default American options; U will usually go for the British voices named Amy and Brian, because the don't sound Luke tired robots. ;)

I started using a new MacBook Pro in 2022, after using the same Air for over a decade. I really hate the changes Apple made to VO, as they try and transform it into a JAWS-like reader. So, I typically use iOS Spoken Content on my Mac but damn it needs work. I hate how, once it begins reading a paragraph, say, when I am writing in a Pages document you can't stop the voice without moving the cursor away from the screen. Also, I hate how the SC voice does not follow the cursor like it does with VO. Apple really needs to change that. I have to switch back and forth between VO and SC all the time, depending on the work I am doing or the program I am in. Also, Apple really needs to add a keyboard shortcut to switch SC on and off, like you can with VO. SC really needs some work. Another example, well this is with VO but VO does not work correctly when using it in iMessages, it only reads part of the message. I have talked to Apple at least 4 or 5 times since 2022 but so. far, I have not seen any changes to SC. I really never use the SC controller, it's just too much extra work just to read the screen and highlighting text for reading is also too many keystrokes or mouse moves. I miss the old VO. On the iPhone and iPad however, no complaints. My next task is to learn how to connect a braille display to my Mac.
