I’ve been in 2 vaccine trials. For the first one (Pfizer’s COVID vaccine) I was in the saline placebo group. The second one was a trial for a Lyme disease vaccine. I got the first 2 of 3 doses, but then my study site was dropped from program. I have not yet been informed what I got in that trial. They are supposed to contact me sometime in the next year.

Regarding follow up periods during phase 3, the FDA and EMEA require 6 months of safety follow up on all participants of the trial. This is already overly cautious as the vaccine is usually gone from the body in a few hours to a few days. There is little evidence for serious adverse events more than 2 weeks after vaccination so 6 months is way longer than needed. Even the 2 months required for EUA is more than enough to determine long term safety. And as mentioned in the video, all rare safety issues, like myocarditis for Covid vaccines, only show up in phase 4 studies.
