Hello everyone! Long time no see! Going to finally be posting content here again on this channel! Just a quick comparison between 2 legendary Shure dynamic mics. You can't go wrong with either, or both of these! I hope this video helps shed some light on the differences between both of these mics.

The mics were placed as close as possible to the sound source, and what you hear was recorded simultaneously on both both mics. Each mic went into a Neve Portico 511 preamp, to an Apogee Symphony, to Logic. All sounds are raw with no processing.

Let me know what you year in the comments!

The SM7B sounded amazing even without processing. The SM57 sounded a little sibilant when used for vocals. I face the same issue with this mic on vocals. So, I use a mic foam to lower the sibilance and it works very close to an SM7B.

Thanks for this comparison, super helpful. The SM7B sounds terrific on vocals. I love the SM57 on rock vocals as well (early Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin vocals, lots of others) and the 57 foam screen is a great addition. The 57 won the kick and snare test pretty handily.

SM 57 more prescence in the treble region, as compared to the SM7B which sounds warmer and deeper.

sm57 has more presence and transients, perfect for percussive sounds, guitar amps and rock voices.

I want to use this mic for VO, many people seem to be recommending it. But it sounds very sibilant here. What would you say, can I use it for this purpose?

They sound identical except for louder white-noise on the the sm7b. some comments say the sm57 is more sibilant, but that's probably because no foam pop filter is being used. The a2ws windscreen would probably fix the sibilants to some degree.
