I mean, if emotions are getting high and the conversation isn’t productive because of that, it’s usually best to take a few minutes apart to calm down before you approach the issue again. This person knows their limits and set their boundaries accordingly.

I felt this. There have been times where I'll give a heads up. Like, "hey, I'm starting to spiral and I'd like some time to calm down. I love you, can i call you back in 20 minutes".

"There's no difference", except adding gestures and facial expressions to the equation, as well as an opportunity to better comfort each other. It's so much easier to regulate emotions and react to someone, when you can actually see them. And why is only the person reacting overly emotional called out, when the other one goes cold? That's not well regulated either. What a weird take

Me and the wife are similar. We had issues at first with calling one another, especially at work, with information that could wait until later in the night or in person. We dont have many discussions that need body language interpretation over the phone. We've also made it a clear rule that if you need something call, if the other doesnt answer, they arent in a great head space. If you really need something call again and regardless of how the other feels, they answer. Having clear ground rules in any relationship isnt right or wrong. Communication and ground rules is important asf
