Managing big data directly from vessels has become an essential component supporting commercial decision making and regulatory compliance. The big data imperative has consequently put the spotlight on the protection of that data and has been exemplified in the IMO’s resolution 'Maritime Cyber Risk Management in Safety Management Systems’, implemented in January 2021.
