Please make a video on the language too! I just learned that my Chinese family clan name is one of the 9 Sogdian surnames in China. I'm enjoying learning about this history, thank you.

Sogdian trade routes were spread across all the way to China and Korean peninsula. Their influence was thought to be strong especially for Korea because some of them were elite and possibly founding members of Shilla, which is one of the three ancient Korean kingdoms that eventually succeeded in the unification.

Very nice video, just one correction, the 3rd and last and current stage of the Persian language, Dari (Farsi, Farsi ye Dari, Dari) already existed about 100 years before islam and had emerged, and according to the Iranic and even father of Arabic prosody and poetry, Jahiz, was from the beginning the mother tongue of the people of Sassanid ctesiphon capital, Ahwaz and what later became basrah, and simultaneously balkh and Marv and some Other districts of khorasan. The oldest writing in Dari is the praise of barbad the musician for shah khosraw parviz, and after that a couple more like the children of balkh ridiculing the Arab general asad bin abdullah as he failed to conquer khotalan and escaped to balkh. Overall very interesting information on the bactrians and sogdians.

Something interesting with the Sogdian history is that they were the first to get rid of the Greek, Seleucid Empire rule, being then independent till a new conquest around two centuries later by the Greeks, this time the Greek-Bactrian, which didn't last as there was then civil war betwewb the Greeks and invasion by the "Yuezhi", a tokharian, non-iranian but indo-european tribe, later nicknamed indo-scythians.
I wonder if the indian name Kambojas, given by the Maurya buddhist empire to friendly east-iranians that had fiercely fought the Greeks ... to the point that were added by that indian empire to the list of indian nations ... included the Sogdians.

Hello!
I was hoping for you to mention how the monarchs of the *Samanid dynasty* commissioned Ferdowsi to write the *Shahnameh*, which was completed under the Ghaznavid dynasty and which heavily drew from the pre-Islamic and Zoroastrian tradition of Bactria and the wider region known as _Greater Khorasan_ - there are numerous characters found in the *Avesta* and in other Middle Persian (Pahlavi) *Zoroastrian religious texts* (such as the _Bundahishn_ and the _Denkard_ ) which were included by Ferdowsi in the Shahnameh!

Do you happen to have a video about the Shahnameh characters which originated in the Zoroastrian lore?

Thanks for the excellent video. I'm interested in the early Bactrian civilisation that flourished from 2300 BCE to 1800 BCE. Do you have a video about them? I think they are pre- or proto-Zoroastrian.

The Sogdians got also Turkified and Sogdian was the lingua Franca of the Göktürk Empire. The Samanids also Persianized the Bactrians and Sogdians and Persianization even existed before. Most of the provinces of modern-day Iran got Persianized. There were mostly local languages spoken in the provinces. The Sistani language for example was completely wiped out and also other languages, such as Sagartian and Parthian. There are still many languages which survived, for example the Khansari/Khunsari language which is spoken in the western part of the Esfahan province. Yaghnobis in Tajikistan speak the Yaghnobi language which descended from Sogdian.

Also many Uzbeks are Turkified Sogdians and the Parthians and Khwarezmians were also Turkified and some of them were Persianized.

God jesus! That’s not correct at all. Sogdians and Bactrians were allowed to use their own languages under the Arab rule. There is no one single historical source says the Arabs banned them from using their mother tongue. Their languages declined because of the Persianization (not Arabization) of Bactrians and Sogdians. This’s why they speak today Farsi and not Arabic.

Do you think that bactrian and sogdian languages should be revived

Something that you don't mention is that the Persian language was more appreciated than the Arab by the Turks.
It's likely the biggest reason why local versions of Persan : the Dari in Afghanistan (beside Pashtun, an eastern iranian language that is similar to the ancient Sogdian) and "Tadjik" in Tadjikistan.

you should make a video about identity of Avestan(Ariana) most central asian race come from them.
its interesting for everyone who dont know about it.
Also name Afghanistan was given by British Empire to traitors who accepted lands of 30+ races as Afghanistan.
