Halloween 2023 is almost here, and the Five NIghts at Freddy's movie is now out, so we decided to combine two of our favorite things and create our first custom full-sized FNAF animatronic - Springtrap.

The base animatronic we used for Springtrap was a Target animatronic skeleton - so technically this is an animatronic makeover. Not only does the skeleton animatronic have awesome movement, but Spring trap actually has a human body trapped inside of him, so it really fits the character. His suit parts are a mixture of EVA foam and 3D printed parts, all covered in green fleece and painted to look old and decayed.

This ended up being a huge DIY project for us, and we ran into a bunch of speed bumps along the way. We really hope you enjoyed seeing Springtrap in real life. Let us know what characters you want to see next!

If you love Halloween DIY projects, FNAF, and indie horror games and want to see more of our DIY Halloween props, check out our Dancing Withered Freddy and Huggy Wuggy animatronic. We also have a ton of other DIY Halloween outdoor decorations and animatronic makeovers on our channel!

Happy Halloween and Stay Wicked, y'all!

Five Nights at Freddy's is made by Scott Cawthon
Springtrap voice acting by Jay :)

I'm impressed. Not just by the quality of the animatronic but also by how accurate they were with the lore. Incredible.

Came out PERFECT as usual!!! So glad despite all the hiccups he got done in time for the movie!! You guys are super creative with how you made this happen and I’m honored you used a part of my original pattern to make him come to life!

FNAF Fandom: _"Oh Springtrap's design was too unrealistic how could a human skull be inside..."_
These guys: Yes.

The coolest part of this animatronic is that it doesn't matter if a seam is kinda wonky or something doesn't quite line up. Springtrap was left to rot for decades, then literally set on fire multiple times. He's supposed to look a little rough and janky. 😊 Great work as usual, guys!

Worst part about it is, most bigger Halloween props are made to just perfectly hold their own weight. You guys did really good working around it and still making him look really good!

23:18 the eye rings are to hold the animatronic eyes in during suit mode. And when a springlock failure happens, the human eyes are effectively replaced with them.

“Hide if you want, it did not save the others; it will not save you.”
That line was actually chilling 24:41

Tbh the reason I think his intestines are on his ankles and arms is cause the suit like compacted his body so after the process of being crushed and his body loosened up his guts kinda flew all over the place around the suit, so it’s kinda like one of those satisfying crushing videos

Long story short, William Afton (the person inside Springtrap) got killed when he was wearing a springlock suit, but the springlocks malfunctioned meaning metal parts holding back wires and sharp pieces of metal were shoved into his back, neck and limbs when the springs unravelled meaning that he died when his own blood flooded his lungs so he couldn't even scream out. Oh and he was a murderer.

The clicking actually goes along pretty well with it! The springlocks would normally make clicking sounds wouldn’t they? The springlocks are also old. Making them weak, and making clicking accurate!

5:06 Scott has always been a bit weird with how he models things sometimes, especially when it's stuff that you don't normally get to see super well, given his style of modeling, I fully believe he intended that to be bits of muscle/flesh that has clumped up at those areas, and the simplest way to model that was to just make it tubing that wraps around

Infinite respect to how much effort you guys make to adapt your plans when things go awry. Motivation is so easy to lose after a big disappointment, but you just take a breath, reset, and keep moving.

Also, as a preschool teacher, I always love a googly eye.
