Zara Swindells-Grose is a Director of Humour Australia (or HA!) and a member of the International Positive Psychology Association. She is also a multi-talented presenter, writer and performer with hundreds of credits; as a recording artist, on stage and screen, as a radio & television host, a Speaker Coach to professional speakers... and as a popular corporate conference facilitator and MC. Zara believes "Good humour is Good Business" and that there is power in humour for improving health, happiness and the bottom line. HA! provide a variety of communication and engagement programs -- with many happy clients, including: Bayer, Cadbury, Coke, Microsoft, IBM, Origin, Optus and more. Most recently, Zara and her husband have created a sci-fi children's animation called Zuzu and The SuperNuffs. Produced by Melbourne's multi award-winning Matchbox Pictures -- it is about to air globally on KidsCo and Syfy Channels, in over 90 countries and 20 languages! She is an expert in helping people lighten up and get more out of their work and their lives. Zara believes many businesses are suffering from an epidemic of over-seriousness and that there is now a common misconception; that "capability" and "seriousness" are the same attribute, when they are in no way related. "You need to be capable in life -- you don't have to be serious".

TEDxMelbourne brings a diverse group of people together to share ideas, knowledge and inspiration through a series of events throughout the year.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

What an uplifting talk. I liked the quote from Voltaire. I do believe God wants us to laugh - there's a reason why, when I feel really connected to God, I laugh and smile.

That was brilliant. Definitely need to apply it to my life. I have not experienced actual death like she has, but ego death many times... and it's during and after those moments for a time that I am really light hearted and realize how humorous life is. Once I become fully ego away again though, those fears creep back in and I become too serious. I just have to realize that those fears have no place in my life though... or anyone's life, and need to just lighten up and laugh about it.
