He knew Austin wasn't dropping the title for a while so it was either 2 ppv's where Austin doesn't lose the title or align yourself with the top guy and stay at the top of the card for longer. He knew what he was doing.

It was so brutal when Austin went bad and Rock left simultaneously. No one could fill that missing gap.

No one was going to cheer for a babyface Triple H against a heel Austin. Hunter was smart to not wanna do that.

7.4 million viewers!! I swear if you didn’t live through that time you don’t realize just how pop culture wrestling was. Now it’s a niche show

Us the fans wouldn't allow that. We would boo a good Triple H and cheer SCSA the heel. He knew what we were thinking. Triple H has to be heel against SCSA.

Yeah there probably will never be a wrestling show to do seven million views ever again

Awful decision not to turn face the night after WM17! The Rock was going away and Austin had turned heel. The only top faces left were Kane and Undertaker.
When you watch that episode of Raw, you can tell the crowd is ready to go nuts for HHH!!! This was in Dallas Texas, and they still wanted to cheer for HHH over Austin that night. But instead, HHH stays heel and it’s a big letdown.

Hunter knew nobody was gonna cheer for his ass against Austin, heel or not. He knew what was up.

Triple H was one of the few true heels when most others were Tweeners

I hated HHH and I still had his merch. I just loved wrestling so much at the time.

When Triple H came back from his quad injury in 2002, at first I thought he and Stone Cold were gonna face off at WrestleMania 18 with Stone Cold being the heel and Triple H being the babyface. I even pictured the undisputed title being on the line.

I think after judgement day is when they wanted to turn hhh face but he got injured. I don’t see triple turning face only one month after their no way out match. Supposedly Austin and hhh kept costing each other matches and this was leading to a feud.

He probably made the right call. If your name isn't The Rock or Hulk Hogan, nobody is going to root for you against Steve Austin -- and both of the aforementioned guys still might find themselves being booed despite their natural charisma. If you present me with HHH and Austin, I'm going to cheer for Austin. It doesn't matter how you present someone in that scenario, almost everyone is going to go with Austin.

where was the in depth info on Triple H not wanting to turn???

Honestly in ways it was somewhat of a blessing that we never saw this feud because it would've been likely that we wouldn't of been able to watch SCSA vs Y2J vs Benoit at King Of The Ring plus some of the matches Stone Cold had with Benoit leadimg up to the ppv were just remarkable!

It’s very strange when wrestlers keep changing from face to heel to face again. Wrestlers should try their best to stick to the original character as close as possible like HHH and Randy Orton.

My first hhh shirt I bought in 00 when he was a heel

Austin was an enigma bc he was face but could play that role acting as a heel would've played it.
