Hi, I’m a wannabe marine biologist and I swim a lot all year long. My advice before swimming (in a pool or in the sea) is to put coconut oil in your hair and braid it. You will have to wash it after but a gentle shampoo or a co-wash is usually ok to use as long as you don’t put oil on your scalp. I generally use Godiva by lush and it works like a charm. This way if you’re at the beach all day and you can’t rinse your hair it’s still going to be protected for a long time because coconut oil is not water soluble. Also because of this you are not releasing almost anything in the sea water, so you’re not polluting the environment with chemicals which might be dangerous for wildlife.

To be fair, Christine's hair is always on point 😆 no wonder she feels like the main character.

I have been swimming regularly in a chlorine pool for over a year at least 3 times a week. My hair got damaged at first but I found that if I wet my hair, put in some coconut oil/leave-in conditioner, and wear a swimming cap it really protected my hair and kept it healthy. I hope this helps.

2:58: 🌞 Sun damage does not cause gray hair, but it can damage and dry out the hair.

I am the typical " my hair are not growing and my ends are thin" I was using quite good shampoo, kerastase genesis, well hopefully it s good . But never a conditioner, no masks. Also had Olaplex oil and n3 olaplex, but i was not using them properly. I changed my routine following your advices + leave in conditioner and my ends changed COMPLETELY. Just in a week. I am teaching that to my daughter so she can keep her beautiful hairs. I live in ireland and I wish I could come to your salon just to say thanks 😊

Good evening dear professor, I just wanted to let you know that you are helping me a lot, with this video you made me understand how I have always been wrong with my hair at the sea and why year after year they have worsened. With another video you gave me great tips to help my hair damaged from the mistreatment .. What makes me smile is that these good practices come to me from an overseas hairdresser (I live in Italy) instead of my😊 Thanks again you are always very generous and you have so much attention for us and for the health of our hair

I‘ve always taken it for granted that hair is damaged after vacation on the beach or the pool.
What i‘ve taken out of this video (for my life) is:
Do a hair mask before i go on a trip. Only take conditioner with me, no shampoo needed during a one-week-trip. If the beach provides a shower, take the offer and rinse my hair, after getting out of the sea. Always wear my sun hat, when i walk around on a sightseeing tour.
Thank you, Chris, for these tips to protect my hair. ❤

As a competitive swimmer, I’ve learned we’re not supposed to use leave-in conditioner in the pool. Chemicals can mess with the pool’s PH levels. And unfortunately — the leave-in conditioner rinses out of your hair in the water. Others may accidentally invest or taste your hair products. This is why it’s required to shower or rinse before getting in the pool.

Getting your hair wet with fresh water first is my go-to! I also use vitamin C powder as a rinse to neutralize chlorine after.

Otherwise, as a fellow Floridian who struggles with summer hair care, I loved all the other phenomenal advice!

I’m 46, I love to listen to you. I bought everything you recommended even though I’m European lady living in China.-so I overpaid but it was so worthy! I’m dying my roots only (dark brown) every 4-6 weeks with professional products and very light oxidant (1, 9%), because in China they literally burn my hair with their super strong oxidant. I had to cut a big portion of my hair, felt terrible and thank to your channel I managed to grow my hair long and healthy again! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Now living in super hot, humid part of China.

I didn't notice my sun damage until too late. I had to cut a lot of the part behind the crown. That's why I recommend to any preteens starting to do their hair themselves: wear hats in the summer, if you can't, top not bun.

I also stay out of pools, haven’t been in one since I was a child. Nor do I go in any nasty lake water. People pollute so much in our lakes and oceans. It’s not worth it and I can have fun in other ways. However swim caps are the best option for those who do want to swim and still protect their hair. I love being out in the sun but I don’t really like hats so I just try to find some shade instead. What I do to protect my hair from the elements the most is wear my hair in protective styles like braids or twists. This keeps the moisture in for weeks until I’m ready to let it down again. It also protects my strands from breakage.

The pool section was really helpful for a compete swimmer who swims 14+ hours a week 👍
