My best advice for anyone thinking about playing the game ; you are able to try the game several weeks a year for free, you will also have a better experience if someone can teach you how to play, and if you don't know anyone this is a very nice community and it should be easy to find someone willing to teach you the basics. (trying to learn alone might be overwhelming even with the tutorial)

Crazy hearing how Freelancer was scaled back. It to this date is my favourite single player game and I have replayed the crap out of it, even just a couple years ago.

$30 got me both years ago. With 3k+ hrs in SC it's by far the best $$ to game time I've ever and all.

I would rather have a few systems vs over 100. I want more detail. Quality over quantity.

I'm rooting for these guys!

After watching Asmongolds' video on the Starengine, it's silly how many people think that what they saw was fake... just goes to show how many people listened to the trolls and did not look into the game... sure, we don't have some of the things in the engine vid yet, but we have most of it.

Even after all of the setbacks and wrong release dates, it's undeniable that the technology they have developed is amazing, even if the persistent universe is not complete, it's pretty impressive as it is

Wow thank you for mentioning our Circumnavigation trips! :) they were a lot of fun to do but such a huge time commitment - as you say though there ware very few games with the scale and the freedom to allow a player to do that kind of thing - and we're living through a very exciting time to be playing this game - I have a feeling the year ahead is going to be incredible! Keep up the awesome content LevelCap <3 :)

I've been in it since the beginning, before they shifted to their website. The projected release dates kept getting dusted because of feature creep. In this case however, Chris Roberts stated in his very first promotional video for Squadron 42 that, if they were able to make enough money, they'd continue to grow the project and branch out. The intention was to eventually create the persistent universe. That other projects, far less in scope, have taken as long as they have has helped to put the length of this project into perspective. That Starfield took as long as it did to basically give us Fallout in Space with so many loading screens it's practically half of your activity also provided some clarity. Ironically, the younger backers, impatient for release and the skeptical, were promoting the kind of rapid release thought process that killed the video game industry in the 90s, which was the primary reason Chris Roberts got out of the industry for a time and avoided distributor financing for this project. This project isn't just making games, it's creating new technologies and expanding the potential for the rest of the industry.

It's not just Chris's dream game, as soon as I heard of star citizen in 2016 it had me hooked, I remember being so excited for just being able to walk around the hanger and sit in my hornet ghost 😂 now we have seamless space to planetside plus caves and new water and cloud tech ☁️

My though about SC is regardless the mistakes they made in the past, this is why we're lucky to have a company like CIG (and Larian), they take their time to shape the game in a way that they really want, with much dept and details, without some company forcing them to realease the game incomplete or downscaling their vision of what the game should have been

I'm a big Minecraft nerd but Star Citizen is slowly becoming my favourite. The in game music score alone is worth the money. Even with the bugs and delays it's an incredible experience. If you are thinking about becoming a Star Citizen, buy a little ship, accept the bugs (which are usually rare) and don't heve any expectations about updates. The anticipation of SCs potential is one of the reasons it's so exciting!

The thing that makes even following the development of SC so engrossing is that it feels like an exploration into the previously unknown. Groundbreaking tech and fascinating insights into game dev. I love that LevelCap is as invested in Star Citizen as many of us. Also great to hear a shoutout to Citizen Kate (and Will, ) my favorite channel to watch for SC!

Thanks! I've been a 3D model artist, working with games engines, for 22 years. I've recently started to create sci-fi assets inspired by games such as this, Starfield and No Mans Sky. I listen to videos like this, as I create my assets, because it's almost like listening to a video from that future and it "puts me in the zone." Lol.

My $60 in 2012 on Kickstarter was well spent. It's nice to see more people in mainstream gaming becoming aware of what SC/SQ42 are all about

Subscribed in 2012 for BF3 - then lost interest in Battlefield - now subscribing again for SC! Keep it the good work!

Even in it's various states throughout the patches, people spent a few dozen bucks on this and had hundreds or thousands of hours of fun. Easy to overlook that.

I’m gen-x and grew up on Wing Commander for SNES and PC.

Star Citizen for me as and adult is the holy grail of gaming. Those early games were so amazing and memorable, just having that mindset AND the insane tech achievements is like being a kid again.

I honestly can’t believe they did it. It’s gaming as a kid, but with adult worlds and depth

OK, this is, bar none, the best explanation of the history and current state of the project that I have ever seen.
