Walking The Battlefields Trail - Stage 3 - The Battle of Edgehill

Показать описание
Final stage of our hike along the fabulous Battlefields Trail. This 8.88 mile walk took us from beautiful Warmington up and down hills through Arlescote and Ratley before arriving at Edgehill which sits at the top of the escaprment and overlooks the battlefield below.
The historic Castle Inn provides a great rest stop and also views across the battlefield. Descending off the slope the trail navigates the walker through the battelfield itsef and into Radway which has an exhibition on the battle. The path then takes you across the battlefield towards the Kineton MOD base. Navigating around the base perimter you then arrive in the pretty village of Kineton which markes the end of the Battlefields Trail.
The trail has provided 20+ miles of superb walking. Gorgeous countryside, rolling hills peppered with chocolate box villages. The battlefields themselves are accessible. There are very few signboards but that helps to let the mind wander about the events that took place on these sites. It boggles the mind to think about the terror that took place and why it was happening. It conjures up the following words in my mind - Madness, folly, stupidity but bravery, heroics and guile also. Theres nothing romantic about the slaughter of so many. These are places to poke your conscience and remember the mistakes made by earlier generations, praying that future generations dont make them again.
A great trail worthy of any walker that likes to ponder!
