Panasonic Lumix G9 II Stabilization Test

Panasonic Lumix G9 II (DC-G9M2) camera has built-in stabilization with various modes for video recording. In this test, I have tested the stabilization off, only IBIS (or Dual IS) active, standard electronic stabilization with approx 1.1x crop and another electronic IS optimized for walking with 1.25x crop. There is also Boost IS which is basically an electronic tripod.

The lenses Leica 9mm F1.7, Leica 12-35mm F2.8 and Leica 12-60mm F2.8-4.0 were tested

Impressive, there's no denying that. IBIS plus EIS does a heck of a job, in my view. For vlogging with a wide-angle lens such as the Leica 9mm, the additional Max EIS and the crop is OK but not so much with a narrower lens. IBIS plus Boost IS really verges on tripod-stable!

This was such a great test video! Thank you for creating it and sharing. I was filming with the 9mm lens last night and tried these modes. I wish I would've seen your video before I filmed so I would've known the focal lengths and crop factor. Very informative on coverage area especially with the buildings.

My main question is whether I can get gimbal-smooth footage. Since you didn't seem to be walking heel-toe as one would with a gimbal it was hard to tell. Also, I would have liked to see much more footage like the last bit, in which you were actually walking while pointing the camera away from you. Walking with the camera facing your head filling the frame is hard to read. But thanks, I guess.

Panasonic's EIS looks impressive and very useful for lenses like the 9mm. I look forward to getting the G9II. Just wish it was a little less expensive as it's currently over double the price of the G9!

Thanks for this video. Since I'll switch very soon from my GH5 II to the G9 II, it's very interesting.
Until now, I've been used to record with Dual Stab or IBIS + Boost Stab. I've never taken Vlog shots. Since your sequences are convincing, shall I have to do so, I'll add ES.
When it's a "tripod like" shot or a "body generated pan", I find GH5 II stab is sufficient. My impression is that it's not very different with the G9 II.
But because I may have to improve my "Ninja Walk" technic a lot, I think iI'll not be able to improve it with the G9 II. In order to get a "Gimbal like edit", I usually make additionnal stab in post prod. From the sequence I've seen, I'll continue to do so with the G9 II. To get a "Gimbal like edit" in Davinci Resolve Studio, I combine "Optical Flux", "Maximal Mvt", "Best Quality" and "Similitude" settings. If the processing time is significantly increased, the result is very good, and the crop factor is similar, may be smaller, than what I've seen on your video with "Max ES" on.
