Interesting on your thoughts of 9038 vs 9068.
I first got a DAC with 1656 op amps and a 9018 dac and the sound was ok, but on the clinically bright side, but then I got an E50 and a linear power supply which has the 1612 op amps and the 9068, which I liked a little better and goes head to head with my old mid tier multi bit from burr brown.
I thought (maybe) the secret sauce was the premium bipolar audio op amps in the E50 in lieu of the CMOS op amps in my cheaper dac, which is a Modi+ btw.
Edit: Hence, I’m using the Modi+ on my less expensive stereo system that has Polk Monitors, and the Modi+ is a good sounding fit there. A better dac on that system, and I can’t hear a difference, so the Modi+ found a home lol

It is strange that you do not mention how to use the available settings options from standby mode by long pressing the power button or via remote control.

How does this compare with the Dethonray Pegasus SG-1 with it's ES9038? Overall sound profile?

I wish they'd just use a single connection to connect everything, something like a powered Ethernet or power over HDMI. One cable to rule 'er connect them all.

E30II and L30II are better then E50 and L50, E30II has 2 newer AKM Dacs and L30II has the same power output as L50 both are 50% cheaper i have them both and i'm very happy L30II is Great for IEMs and for very Power hungry headphones too
and don't think balanced gives you anything more then just more power so Topping literally killed E50 and L50 with the release of the New Revision of E30 and L30 btw according to Topping L30II has better Amp circuits and Less noise plus cause how it set up with it's Gain options is Better for IEMs then L50
